There is a saying,"Run only as fast as your guardian angels can fly", which is appropriate for horses. Horses run for joy and play, to warm themselves, to evade predators, and just to get where they are going faster. The walk away from the barn may be slow but the jog back is always faster. Horses are a prey animal; they run to escape their predators. The horse that will willingly give you his feet, thus handicapping himself, is showing signs of great trust. Guardian angels who take the task of abiding with horses must truly be acrobats in the spirit world as anyone watching the running horse will understand.
