In nature the male is the resplendently beautiful half of the mating pair; pheasant roosters are an excellent example of this. Their colorful patterns of feathers are not rivaled in the North American wild birds for their beauty. Pheasants truly look like the "Courtiers" from the days of Kings and their courts with their bright colors and behaviors. Even after all of the marshes and fields have turned brown and the trees have dropped their beautiful fall colored leaves, the male pheasant rooster remains a brilliantly colored courtier of pheasant hens. The male pheasant's color can be startling in the muted landscape, but rarely will a hen be seen because she blends perfectly with the tan brush.
