In the crisp Fall mornings you can sometimes hear the rasping sound of antlers being scraped on trees. Some say the scraping is to dislodge the velvet from the antlers. Others say it is to mark territory. All is in preparation for the ultimate fight for the doe. Fortunately most deer know the size of their antlers without a mirror and will not challenge a more mature buck. They seem to know if they have a fighting chance or not. Occasionally interlocked antlers are found as the proof of the ultimate loss of both bucks when their conflict permanently entangles them.

When the crisp biting winds start to blow the leaves in the fall, deer season is soon to follow. Bucks can be seen with their magnificent racks trying to be the most impressive, biggest, strongest, and most powerful in "their corner" of the woods. Bucks lose their sense of logic and total instinct takes over ruling their wandering and fighting. The strong bucks win to bring that strength to the next season of fawns.
