Gayle Adams Original Feather Paintings
Gayle Adams found great satisfaction in drawing early in her life. At a very young age, she was able to get the pictures to appear to look back at you from the paper. Through the years, she would always find herself doodling. As a youngster at school, all of Gayle's book covers were major works of art and cartoons. The concentration that she needed to do the work would act like a meditation of sorts and would take Gayle away from the world around her to that special creative place in her head and heart.

Gayle is self-taught with special interest in textures and color, and light and dark contrast. She entered college with intent on getting some sort of a degree in art but unfortunately was never able to attend an art class. Gayle Adam's maiden name put her at the end of the art class sign up lists. Just when she would have had been at the beginning of the list, she married. The name Adams was again at the end of the list for art class registration.

Years later when Gayle's autistic daughter was born, most of her creative side was put on hold for the following twenty years. With four children, her artistic side created quilts, flower gardens, and decorated her home. Gayle designed several items that she manufactured and sold, and she did custom sewing for others. About four years ago, her daughter moved into a really good group home and again she was able to find her special creative place.

The emotions and expressions showing the individual personalities of the people and animals are of special interest to her. Since her autistic daughter has no speech, Gayle really needed to learn to read her facial expressions in order to understand what her needs were. Mr. Adams' father also lacked the ability to communicate verbally since having strokes before Gayle knew him. He was a master of facial expressions, and had to communicate with your eyes to let you know what was on his mind. Through her family, Gayle Adams has learned how to put more than 1000 words into the pictures that she creates with her pencils and brushes. Trying to understand her loved ones really taught her how to look closely at facial expression and to understand the detailed emotions that it is expressing.

Gayle creates her pictures from photos and from real life. She is constantly seeing the world through "art eyes" while taking note of every texture, color, and balance. Gayle Adams has lived with many animals through the years and has studied the animated expressions that can speak for themselves. She feels a close connection to animals and really enjoys bringing their pictures to life.

Nature's awe inspires Gayle Adams to say, "The world, even on the grayest of days, has a very magnificent beauty. I find sunsets breathtaking. I find all of life very wonderful, and an experience for the senses. I enjoy capturing portions of that to share with others. Just an expression or texture is so worthy of saving and experiencing over and over in art."

With so many things available at the push of a button in our society, and with photography in an instant, it would be easy to ignore this type of art. Gayle feels that the meditative quality, the peace and calm achieved through the concentration are truly side benefits that she achieves. Others can enjoy her art while Gayle enjoys the peace that the creative process brings to her. Gayle finds there are many things that she would like to do artistically, and she is open to requests or suggestions.
